GE oven F2 code? It went over its temperature limit. Try a breaker reset

Applies to: GE ranges and wall ovens with electronic oven controls. GE says its code list can't cover every model. On other GE appliances F2 can mean something different, so this page is for ovens.

What the code means

F2 means the oven temperature went over a preset limit. GE's page says it happens for an unknown reason.

Before you start

  • Turn the oven off. The one step to try is at the circuit breaker or fuse that feeds the range or wall oven.

What the manufacturer says to check

  1. Turn off the circuit breaker or fuse that feeds the range or wall oven for a minute or two, then turn it back on.
  2. See whether the code has cleared. GE says the reset can clear it, but sometimes the control doesn't reset.

Stop and call for service

Stop and call for service if any of these happen.

  • GE says that when a fault code shows, a trained service person should be called to find and fix the cause. Schedule service if the breaker reset doesn't clear it.
  • Until the oven is serviced, GE recommends leaving it off at the breaker. On a range, GE says you can switch the breaker back on just long enough to use the cooktop, then switch it off again.
