What the code means
These codes mean the dryer senses that air can't flow freely through the exhaust duct. LG's dryer code list says d75, d80, d90 and d95 mean the duct is seventy-five, eighty, ninety or ninety-five percent clogged. Two or four bars on the Flow Sense display mean the exhaust is severely restricted.
On a gas dryer, LG says d80 may also mean not enough gas is reaching the dryer.
Before you start
- If the display shows d90 or d95, don't run the dryer, not even to test it. LG says using it like that may be dangerous, and not to use it until the exhaust has been cleaned and repaired.
- Unplug the dryer before you clean inside it, disconnect the vent or reach behind it.
- If you have a gas dryer and smell gas, leave first and call from outside.
What the manufacturer says to check
- Clean the lint filter, and clean inside the dryer.
- For d75 or d80 only: with the dryer running, go outside and feel the air coming out of the vent. It should be strong.
- Look at the outside vent hood. Check it for damage and lint, and check that its flaps open all the way. If they can't, replace the cover.
- With the dryer off and unplugged, disconnect the vent from the dryer and look for blockages.
- Check the exhaust hose behind the dryer. It shouldn't be crushed, dented, kinked or squashed, or have holes or loose joints. It should run straight or in an S curve, and be rigid or semi rigid duct.
- Once the exhaust is clear, dry smaller loads, so air can pass through.
- Blockages you can't see, in long runs or runs with many bends, are a job for a professional vent cleaner. LG suggests asking them to check the lint buildup, the length of the run to the outside, the number of ninety degree bends, and whether the run needs changes.
Stop and call for service
Stop and call for service if any of these happen.
- The display shows d90 or d95, or the Flow Sense bars say the exhaust is severely restricted, and you can't find and clear the blockage with the dryer unplugged. Leave the dryer off until the exhaust has been cleaned and repaired.
- The code keeps showing after these checks. LG says the dryer then needs service.
- You have a gas dryer showing d80 and the vent is clear. The gas supply isn't covered by these checks, so call for service.
