What the code means
5E means water isn't leaving the washer at the right speed, or at all.
Samsung says a drain hose that isn't installed correctly is the most common cause, and that service is rarely needed.
Before you start
- Turn the washer off and unplug it before you check the hose or open the filter door.
- After a hot cycle like Pure Cycle or Sanitize, the water inside may be very hot. Samsung says to wait about an hour for it to cool.
- Don't remove the screw on the back of the washer that holds the drain hose in place.
What the manufacturer says to check
- Check that the washer is level.
- Check the drain hose. It should go six to eight inches into the standpipe or sink, be held so it can't slip down, and not form an airtight seal. It shouldn't be kinked, bent or damaged.
- Check the drain hose height. Samsung says at least eighteen inches and no higher than ninety-six inches, or twenty-four to thirty-five inches for a wash basin. It shouldn't be on a drain hose extension kit.
- If the screw that holds the drain hose against the back of the washer was removed, put it and its holder back. Samsung says any screw that fits will do.
- On a front-load washer, clean the pump filter behind the small door at the bottom front. Put a towel down, then drain the water from the filter's rubber hose into a container before you open the filter. Samsung suggests cleaning it about once a month or every forty washes.
- Turn the washer back on and start a cycle. It should drain at the start of the cycle.
Stop and call for service
Stop and call for service if any of these happen.
- The washer doesn't drain at the start of that test cycle. Samsung says to request service.
- The holder that keeps the drain hose against the back of the washer is missing. Samsung says that needs service.
