What the code means
On a front-load washer, F5E2 means the door isn't locking properly.
On a top-load washer, it means the washer can't engage the lid lock, possibly because something is in the way.
Whirlpool's F5E3 pages just say “Door Lock” and give the same five minute reset as the top-load steps below.
Before you start
- Turn the washer off before you reach into the door or lid area. Unplug it for the reset.
What the manufacturer says to check
Front-load washers
- Check that nothing blocks the door and that it closes all the way.
- Press Pause/Cancel twice and Power once to clear the code.
Top-load washers, and F5E3
- Check that the lid lock area is clear of objects and clothing.
- Reset the washer. Unplug it for five minutes, then plug it back in.
Stop and call for service
Stop and call for service if any of these happen.
- The code keeps showing after these checks and a five minute unplug. Whirlpool's F5E2 and F5E3 pages don't give a point to call for service. Its front-load code list says to call or book service when a code like this persists after a five minute unplug.
